I am a trusted communications advisor with 20+ years of experience building and protecting reputations in Washington. I have advised C-suite executives, Members of Congress, and federal commissions, and I currently lead brand and strategic communications for HB Strategies across its twelve offices. Much of my work happens without a byline. That is by design. I am a fifth-generation Oklahoman, a graduate of Southern Methodist University, and started my career in a Tulsa newsroom.
I lead the strategy and production behind HBS CEO Andy Blunt's public profile, positioning him as a leading political voice in Washington with HBS clients and media. My work spans the full arc of each product: drafting content directly with Andy, designing and laying out every piece, and building the promotional package used to distribute it to external audiences. This work also includes capitalizing on Senator Roy Blunt's arrival at the firm following his retirement from Congress. I collaborate with Senator Blunt on topic selection and drafting, and I design and lay out the material that carries his byline.
I led the firm's complete rebrand following its separation from Husch Blackwell LLP, including the complex work of navigating when the firm could return to using the HBS name. I worked with firm leadership on core messaging, partnered with an external graphic designer on the new logo, and led the redesign of the firm's website. This work also includes strategic promotion of the firm's state teams and ensuring key members of the Federal team are recognized on Washington's annual list of top lobbyists, a distinction the firm has earned every year since 2021.
I served as Communications Director to former U.S. Representative Tillie Fowler during her time in Congress, and later served as spokesman for two independent federal panels on which she served: the Independent Panel to Review DoD Detention Operations, convened to review the Abu Ghraib investigations, and a separate panel examining the handling of sexual assault allegations at the U.S. Air Force Academy which she chaired. When Mrs. Fowler unexpectedly died in 2005, her family asked me to speak on their behalf.
As a consultant to Cassidy & Associates for 12 years, I served as chief spokesman and communications strategist for the firm's founder and CEO through a period of intense public scrutiny, including an extensive Washington Post profile of the firm. I advised on corporate strategy and represented the firm directly to reporters at outlets including The Washington Post, The Hill, and The Wall Street Journal during high-stakes moments, from client departures to foreign government contracts. I was also an early advocate for digital strategy at the firm, helping build out its online presence and content efforts at a time when few in the lobbying industry had done so.
I have advised C-suite executives across a range of industries navigating high-stakes public moments. I worked with Francis Energy, a Tulsa-based EV charging company, on messaging and positioning with its CEO as the company grew alongside federal EV infrastructure programs. I helped establish the Advanced Biofuels Association's public-facing communications structure, including an early CEO video series I produced to put a face on the industry during a period of heightened congressional scrutiny. I also advised Mace Security International's CEO on strategic positioning as he engaged Congress during the early debate over nonlethal school safety products.
